The Georgiou Lab
Neuroendocrinological mechanisms of mental disorders
The Georgiou lab studies how hormones and their receptors affect brain networks resulting in the development of behavioral deficits.

Research
Our research focuses on brain reward disorders such as drug addiction and mood disorders with a particular emphasis on the impact of hormones on these disorders. Using behavioral, pharmacological, molecular and electrophysiological approaches, we are investigating how hormones, like oxytocin, corticotropin releasing factor, and estradiol are involved on the development of maladaptive reward processing at the circuit level and whether manipulation of these systems act as new treatment targets.
